The challenge of corporate portraiture
It’s always tricky to make corporate portraits exciting. Particularly when they take place on a windswept industrial estate in Didcot.
In this case, I’ve attempted to make a simple head-and-shoulders shot more interesting thanks to the use of sidelighting (a softbox mounted on a Bowens Gemini 500) plus a pose that isn’t a straighforward smile at the camera. Hopefully this gives the image a stronger sense of narrative. It’s been edited in Adobe Lightroom to boost contrast and reduce saturation, to add to the introspective mood.
The willing victim is John Drake of high-end bathroom manufacturer Burgbad. Luckily he was happy to be shot – which always helps – and has a keen interest in photography himself.

wow, you made an excellent job of that! I see far too many pictures which were clearly taken in exactly the circumstances you describe; the case for employing a professional photographer couldn’t have been made any stronger!
