TOTO makes a splash
The August issue of FX magazine features my latest ‘Eyewitness’ photo spread:
A Japanese-style screen that encloses a glowing bath tub gets its final polish prior to the launch of the Ebony Suite at London’s exclusive hotel The May Fair. The colour-changing TOTO bath is manufactured from Luminist material to emit a soft glow while you soak. The 110 sq m hotel suite features a number of high-tech bathroom products from Japanese manufacturer TOTO, including toilets that warm, wash and dry your delicate areas and a shower with horizontal jets of pulsating water.
The set-up for the shot was fairly straightforward. The camera was set up dead parallel to the bath, and windows behind the camera blacked out using lightproof fabric to allow the bath to glow. All other lights in the room were switched off. The bath itself is surrounded by translucent screens. By simply opening the bathroom door, directly behind the bath, it was possible to backlight the bath and obtain the silhouette of the (very kind) member of staff as he slowly cleaned the panels.
